Spotlight: Clover Clamps

Welcome to the first in my Spotlight blog series where we look at some of my favorite toys, where to get them, how to use them, why to use them and how they feel.  Each month we will look at another piece of kit and I offer a limited number of 1 hour taster sessions to give you the chance to fully experience them. This month we’re starting with the nipples, those lovely pink targets that are so irresistible.

Clover Clamps

Where to get clover clamps:
Clover clamps can be found in most sex shops. I got the ones pictured above from Mr S Leather in San Francisco, they don’t seem to show them online. These ones from Uberkinky are also good, but really, you can get them everywhere.
Why these ones:
Clover clamps are my favorite for heavy nipple torture because they get tighter as more pressure is applied. This makes them great for people with smaller nipples where the clamps often fall off when played with. Watch out when you’re buying them, some have smooth rubber pads, some have little bumps and some more pronounced bumps. I prefer the ones with the more pronounced bumps, they stay on better.
A short history of clover clamps:
This particular design of clamp originates in Japan. Historically they have been used by Japanese fishermen as sail clamps, and they are still used to this day by seamstresses for keeping fabric taught whilst sewing.
How to use clover clamps:
I usually start by warming up nipples with my fingers, pinching and twisting, squeezing and caressing. It’s easier to attach a clamp to an erect nipple. Sometimes I place it slightly behind, sometimes directly on and sometimes just on the tip of the nipple: the placement depends on what I’m planning on doing next. Often the tip is more sensitive, but it will come off quickly.

clover clampThey way clamps work is that they restrict the blood flow. Over time if left alone the initial pain eases off and they go numb. When clamps are removed the blood rushes back, causing an intense burning sensation. So long as they’re left for a few minutes, coming off is always worse than going on, nothing can change that.

It can be fun to attach the clamps behind the nipple and run a rope from the end of them, up overhead and back down, attaching to the genitals. If kept tight this can lead to an interesting dilemma: move and put more pressure on the tortured nipples, or on the stretched delicate bits. And what if the person is distracted somehow from their precarious position, tickled perhaps, slapped or manhandled.

Or pulling on clamps whilst looking deep into the subs eyes challenges them to take more. It’s amazing how much more a person can take when looking deep into the eyes of their tormentor.

Of course the clamps can also be weighted, tied to fixed points, left to go numb then removed causing massive pain, flicked, tugged, twisted…

And they don’t need to be used just on nipples, how about tongue, ears, lips, nose, scrotum, foreskin, frenum, in between fingers or toes…

Why I like playing with clover clamps:

I like the degree of control they give me over someone, I can inflict a lot of pain with minimal effort, or even just tie them off to something and leave the sub to hurt themselves. I love the inevitability of them, once they are on they must come off, and when they come off it will hurt more, there’s nothing that can be done to change this, no matter how much begging.
What do clover clamps feel like:

“Ooh, let’s try these. You’ve not tried these before.” Sir’s voice is playful, the accent lilting, but my body tenses, and I yelp as the first clamp goes on. Sharp pain, burning pain. I breath, thinking the nipple clamps will not compete with the pain elsewhere. I’m wrong. They seem to tighten by themselves, and Sir playfully jiggles them and my nipples are suddenly the centre of my universe. They are a linked to a chain, which I’m to hold with my teeth. I move my head, a fraction, and Sir laughs as I gasp.

Finally, they are removed, painfully, and I ask Sir for permission to speak. Granted. I can only sum up all the emotions, sensations, ecstasy, agony with “those” three little words. Sir replies that’s sweet, and hurts me more.”

Health and safety:

Restricting blood flow for any length of time can eventually lead to tissue damage, resulting in temporary or permanent loss of sensation. The length of time varies person to person, and depends on how much blood can still flow; if it’s restricted or fully cut off. Generally up to 30 minutes is okay, but if they go blue (purple is okay) or you get stabbing pains it’s time to take them off.

If tortured for a while nipples leak lymph, or even bleed a bit. Make sure to thoroughly clean the clamps after each use. I use medical grade antibacterial/fungal kill-everything-ever spray. Make sure to scrub in between the bumps on the pads where fluid can collect.
